So the new Propeller design just came out. My god. No, it’s not April 1st. It’s a design so bad it wouldn’t even be plausible as the poster-child for bad design. Ok, maybe not that bad. Just kidding - it IS that bad. “What were they thinking,” is the appropriate cliché. See/click on the photo below for my in-depth analysis.

I like the conclusion… “AOL that explains it”

I like the new design… its clean and easy to read… The only thing I don’t like… the grid is the same of engadget…

I really love how you pointed out all the flaws. especially the ‘that explains it’ lol. very creative.

@Edouard: hey man, give “Props” to AOL for re-using the same template over and over again to save… at least… 5 000$ or so… come on, it’s not like if they were a billion dollar company, so 5k is 5k

I’m glad someone spoke out and said it…what were they thinking? I honestly can say I loved the original.

The original was ugly but usability friendly.
The new one is ugly and impossible to use (and to understand the 10.0 formula)

I agree..Propeller’s new design is a bit frustrating..I was expecting something better but then in a way it just degraded.

Just curious as to who Simon is and why his opinion has any relevancy. Not that I’m defending propellor but his opinion does not reflect well upon NVI.

Hello “Just stumbled across this”! Since knowing who’s speaking is indeed important for any opinion, I’d like to introduce myself as social media director here at NVI. Much as I like to think my experience with social media news sites makes my opinion more relevant, I believe that, in most cases, the content defines the relevancy of the post. While the medium of my message could potentially offend, I stand by the judgments I passed.
That said, Propeller’s designed has evolved somewhat since this picture was posted, resolving many of the problems I pointed out. While the current site still keeps funny problems (like About, Sign Up, Sign in, and Front Page being considered as “features”), much of the rest of the design has been tightened up to waste less space.
All to say, thanks for your comment, and you’re welcome to Propeller and AOL for the changes I recommended!
